Why Boat Oil Changes Are Important

Marine engines work much harder than most automotive engines. Boats often run at higher RPMs for extended periods, and the marine environment introduces moisture, salt air, and contaminants that can degrade engine oil more quickly. Without routine oil changes, old oil can break down and lose its ability to properly lubricate internal components.

Boat detailing goes far beyond a simple wash. Our full detailing process removes oxidation, restores faded gel coat, and brings back a deep, mirror-like shine. This not only makes your boat look exceptional at the dock, but also protects the surface from further damage caused by sun exposure and salt.

One of the best upgrades available today is ceramic coating. This advanced protective layer bonds to your boat’s surface, creating a durable barrier against UV rays, salt, and contaminants. Ceramic coatings provide superior gloss, make cleaning easier, and last much longer than traditional wax, helping your boat stay cleaner and look newer with less effort.

Reliable Oil Changes for Engine Health

Routine oil changes are critical to maintaining engine performance and preventing costly repairs. Clean oil reduces friction, improves efficiency, and extends engine life—giving you confidence every time you leave the harbor.

With regular detailing, ceramic protection, and proper engine maintenance, you can enjoy your time on the water while preserving the value and beauty of your boat for years to come.

Key Importance of Regular Boat Oil Changes:

            Prevents Engine Failure

: Old, contaminated oil thickens and degrades, leading to metal-to-metal contact, increased friction, and potential engine destruction over time.

            Reduces Sludge and Contaminants:

As oil breaks down, it forms thick, gel-like sludge that can clog oil passages.

            Prevents Corrosion:

Degraded oil can become acidic, attacking and corroding vital engine metal surfaces.

            Improves Performance and Efficiency:

Clean, proper-viscosity oil keeps the engine running efficiently, optimizing performance and reducing fuel consumption.

            Early Problem Detection:

Regular oil changes allow for inspection of the old oil for metal particles, which can indicate hidden engine damage.

            Maximizes Resale Value:

A well-documented, well-maintained engine increases the boat's value when selling or trading in.

           Maintenance Schedule:

            Interval

: Most manufacturers recommend an oil change every 100 hours of operation, with a maximum interval of one year, whichever comes first.

            Seasonality:

It is often recommended to change the oil in the fall before winter storage to prevent acidic residue from sitting in the engine, though some prefer spring.

Ceramic coating is a top-tier choice for Southern California. Many products have been extensively field-tested in high-UV environments to prevent the common "chalking" and oxidation seen on local hulls.

offers significant advantages over other service options. This is particularly true because many boaters in these areas deal with tight slip spaces, local saltwater corrosion, and the logistical hurdle of moving vessels through the local harbor channels.

The primary advantage in using a mobile boat service is the elimination of "vessel transit time." Moving a boat from its slip to a repair yard—even within the same harbor—can take hours of prep, navigation, and docking. Mobile companies bring the workshop directly to your dock.

You avoid the risk of accidental hull scrapes or mechanical failures that can occur while maneuvering in the narrow channels of Ventura Harbor.

            No "Haul-Out" Fees:

Many repairs can be done while the boat is in the water, saving you the hundreds (or thousands) of dollars typically charged by yards to lift a boat with a Travelift.

, we are often asked about requirements and professional cleaning around the issue of Quagga mussels. Quagga mussels (Dreissena bugensis) are an invasive aquatic species that have infested several Ventura County water bodies, including Lake Piru (confirmed in 2013) and the Freeman Diversion Facility near Saticoy (detected in 2023). Quagga mussels have been established here in Ventura County since 2013, but its spread has been limited thanks to strict monitoring. We have seen no new major infestations reported in 2025, though vigilance continues. There are also statewide concerns about golden mussels (a related invasive detected in Northern CA in 2024).

"Cleaning off" Quagga mussels typically refers to decontamination of boats, trailers, equipment, or infrastructure to prevent spread, as required under California's Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) prevention programs. This is governed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW), and local ordinances.

Lake Casitas (managed by Casitas Municipal Water District) has some of the strictest rules about invasive species due to its role as a drinking water source. All trailered boats, canoes, and hard-shell kayaks require a mandatory inspection, 35-day quarantine (boat cabled and tagged), and proof of clean/dry status. Fees: $75 initial inspection + $20 launch.

California's statewide "Clean, Drain, Dry" protocol applies everywhere, including here in Ventura County. This is mandatory for boaters leaving infested waters (e.g., Lake Piru) or entering uninfested ones (e.g., Lake Casitas).

We follow these steps to avoid violations:

           Clean:

We remove all visible mussels, plants, mud, and debris from boats, trailers, motors, anchors, and gear. We then scrub or pressure-wash (≥200 PSI) away from waterways (e.g., at a car wash or gravel pad), using hot water (≥140°F for 2 minutes) or approved disinfectants (e.g., 200 ppm chlorine solution for 10 minutes) for thorough kill. All waste is discarded in trash, not in the environment.

           Drain:

We empty all water from bilges, livewells, engines, and bait buckets. We also tilt motors so that they drain all water. This has to be done on land, and not in storm drains.

           Dry:

We recommend that boat owners air-dry equipment for 7–30 days (depending on type; e.g., 30 days for complex boats in summer). Boats should be stored in a dry area; faster drying reduces veliger (larval) risk.

The area where the Channel Islands Harbor was first noted in Western European history with the visit of Juan Cabrillo in 1542. He actually landed at Point Mugu, and explored the area as far north as Ventura. The next visitor from Europe was the explorer Sebastian Viscaino, who sailed by Port Hueneme into the Channel between the Anacapas and the coastline, naming it "Santa Barbara Channel" This was in the year 1602. The Franciscan friars began their establishment of the missions in 1700’s, and thereafter the population of present day Ventura County began to grow. This area was under a Spanish land grant from 1837.

The original grantees sold and resold the land because few of them wanted to live here, preferring Spain. One of the major purchasers of this land was Thomas Scott, of New York, and another was Christian Borchard. Thomas Scott was an absentee owner, a wealthy business and oil entrepreneur. He sent his faithful employee Thomas Bard to California to represent his interests in California. In 1873, the County of Ventura was formed, being carved out of the larger Santa Barbara County. The separation was by mutual agreement, and the development of Ventura County actually began. Thomas Bard, the representative of Thomas Scott, was to become a renowned county father. He later became Senator Bard, and was a leader among the many early Ventura County families, who included the McGraths, Oxnards, Petits, Donions, and Ruggles.

In 1945, the United States Congress, through the auspices of California Congressman, Richard Nixon, authorized the Army Corps of Engineers to begin surveying the need for a new harbor in the vicinity of Port Hueneme. Of course, every city and town wanted the harbor, as it would be built at government expense. The government needed the harbor to replace the Port of Hueneme as promised to the local citizens, but a more pressing reason prevailed as well. The site for the new harbor was chosen at Silver Strand for many reasons. First, fewer occupied residences would have to be bought out, and the undeveloped land needed was quite inexpensive; but most importantly, it was closest to the eroding beaches at Hueneme, and the dredged material forming the new harbor could easily be transported to the affected area.

It took 18 years from the time of the authorization to the 1965 dedication of the Channel Islands Harbor. There all the material taken from the site of the new harbor was moved through pneumatic pumping to Hueneme. What a beautiful sight to see the sea water advancing further and further along the rock jetties as they formed the new harbor. Development of the area began as soon as the dredging started. Requests for docks were received on a daily basis. It was soon apparent that the arrival of a new harbor was going to be a tremendous boon for the entire area. Before the harbor was completed by the Corps of Engineers, the Oxnard Water Development Commission was formed, with the directive to enlarge the harbor, building more slips, and erecting a bridge along Channel Islands Boulevard so private residential subdivisions could have their own docking facilities as well as access to the open sea. Martin V. Smith, a local developer and businessman, built the Casa Sirena Hotel, the Lobster Trap restaurant and the Anchorage Waterfront apartments. The Channel Islands Yacht Club, oldest in the area, founded in 1960, obtained a new residence for their club along the main channel, and other yacht clubs soon followed. Boat owners from Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, and up and down the coast were vying for docking space. Up until 1997, funds received from the slip fees and rents of properties in and around the Harbor had paid for all the Park and Recreation expenses in the City of Oxnard.

In the late 1980's serious problems began to emerge with the seawalls. Small cracks were developing at the major cross section at Victoria and Channel Islands Harbor, as well as in a number of the seawalls in the "Mandalay Bay" development of the harbor. These were not easy or inexpensive "fixes," and in 1997 the City Council reversed the collection of harbor monies for the Parks and Recreation Department, and instead applied those monies to the rebuilding of the seawalls. In a conversation with the Deputy Director of Channel Islands Harbor, it was learned that the County of Ventura is responsible for the up-keep of the seawalls from the bridge at Channel Islands Boulevard to the South, and the City of Oxnard is responsible for the up-keep from the bridge to the North. Of course, tax revenues on private properties were increased considerably, and were able to by-pass the Proposition 13 amendment by calling it a "special assessment" rather than a tax increase. Oxnard, as a city, has been growth-oriented, inviting many businesses to come here, and many have answered that call. The harbor has not been able to sustain the same level growth, for reasons citizens cannot understand. In spite of the tremendous growth in personal properties, our harbor businesses have not flourished. This is a problem our five County Supervisors must deal with, and we will keep you posted on any developments in this area. There will be an extension of channels in the new Westport and Sea Bridge developments at Victoria, between Wooley and Harbor Boulevard, and will become part of our Channel Islands Harbor family.

We (and the manufacturer) recommends a freshwater rinse of exterior (especially after saltwater). This is a task that an ower can do on their own. At 1,000 hours, we will inspect electrical/hydraulic/cooling systems, descale heat exchanger, replace zincs, flush glycol, torque bolts, and perform software check. This is typically $1,500–$3,000

At 2,000+ hours. We strongly suggest a hydraulic bushing replacement (certain models only), and a deeper accumulator inspection. This runs an additional $1,000+

Overall, Seakeepers are widely praised for performance, but only when properly maintained. They are anything but a “fit-and-forget” situation. Boat owners should budget for annual maintence service and expect occasional repairs — especially if the unit is used heavily at anchor or in rough seas.

With regard to water spots, corrosion, and barnacle adhesion, the super-hydrophobic (contact angle >110°) nature of ceramic coating can repel salt & water

What is the Most Important Piece of Boat Maintenance to Check?

This Should Be Part of Routine Maintenance For Any Boat Owner

he most important piece of boat maintenance to check is the hull integrity, specifically for any signs of damage, cracks, or leaks. A compromised hull can lead to water ingress, which poses serious safety risks, including sinking, and can cause costly repairs if not addressed early. Regular inspections of the hull—both above and below the waterline—are critical, especially for fiberglass, wood, or metal boats exposed to harsh marine environments.

           Why It’s Critical

           Safety:

A breach in the hull can lead to flooding, compromising the boat’s stability and endangering passengers.

            -

           Prevention

: Small cracks, blisters, or corrosion can worsen over time, especially in saltwater, leading to structural failure.

            -

           Cost Savings

: Early detection of hull issues (e.g., osmotic blisters in fiberglass or rot in wooden boats) prevents expensive repairs or total hull replacement.

           What to Check

            -

           Visual Inspection

: Look for cracks, dents, scratches, or blisters on the hull’s surface, especially around stress points like the keel, bow, or transom.

            -

           Below Waterline

: If possible, inspect underwater portions (via dry-docking or diving) for marine growth, corrosion (on metal hulls), or damage from groundings.

Channel Islands Harbor has an Interesting History

The Channel Islands Harbor is a man-made harbor located in Oxnard, California, USA, adjacent to Hollywood Beach and Silverstrand. The harbor was built in the 1960s as a recreational harbor and to provide a safe anchorage and recreational opportunities for boaters and visitors in the area. Additionally, the harbor contains well over 2,000 boat slips, as well as multiple marina facilities, restaurants, sport fishing facilities, chandleries and shops.

The harbor is comprised of three areas -- (1) west, (2) east and (3) the peninsula. Each area is served by separate public roads, with each area providing different services. The west side consists of marinas, a linear park, restaurants, residential development and retail businesses. The peninsula is dominated by two hotel developments, marinas, apartments and condominiums. The east side bordering Victoria Blvd. is largely commercial and offers boat yards, a marine supply store, boat sales, law enforcement (both Harbor Patrol and a U.S Coast Guard station), administration and search and rescue facilities.

The Harbor is owned and operated by the County of Ventura. Some of the Harbor is operated by businesses that have been granted long-term ground leases by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

The history of the harbor location dates back to the early 1900s when the area was used for farming and ranching. In the 1920s, plans were made to build a deep-water port in the area, but those plans were abandoned during to the Great Depression.

In the 1950s, the area began to see more development, and plans were made for a new harbor to be built. Construction began in 1960, and the harbor was completed in 1965. The harbor was named the Channel Islands Harbor because of its proximity to the Channel Islands National Park, a group of islands off the coast of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

The harbor quickly became popular among boaters and visitors, and a variety of businesses and facilities were established in the area, including marinas, restaurants, shops, and hotels. Today, the harbor is a major attraction in the area, offering a wide range of recreational opportunities, including fishing, boating, kayaking, jet-skis, and stand-up paddle boarding. The harbor also serves as a hub for the local commercial fishing industry, providing a source of fresh seafood for the community.
Because of the uncertainty of the timing of rescinding COVID-related restrictions on recreational activities in California, the SCYA board decided to postpone 2021’s SCYA Midwinter Regatta. The planned Regatta for 2021 would have marked the 100th anniversary of the SCYA, so its to everyone’s disappointment that the association is delaying their signature annual boating event. The last time the Regatta was cancelled was during WWII.

Southern California generally enjoys mild winters However, when storm clouds gather as they often do this time of year, Southern California storms can be dangerous for boaters. Boat owners should be “storm-ready” all winter and even into the spring.

Southern California spring and winter storms can bring fast moving and elevated water, which in turn can contain all sorts of debris and possibly damage your boat or dock.

California with more than 1,000 miles of coastline, and literally hundreds of rivers and lakes, has one of the highest boating activity in the nation. This elevated activity means that contaminants from boating can enter our water environments, creating problems for both the health of California’s waterways and human health. California has 1,051,606 registered recreational boats -- more than any other state. Even allowing a small amount of untreated waste from only

“Pumpout Nav” is free to download at the Apple App Store or Google Play. It will show the location of the nearest marine sewage pumpout, dump station, and floating restrooms. When using the app, a pumpout will appear on your device’s screen as a green marker. When you tap on the marker, the station will display “operational,” indicationing it is open and working normally.

The Effect of COVID and Lockdowns on Family Sailing

During 2020, most people stayed home or gathered with family only. If the year taught us anything it was that we should not take anything for granted. Despite the plunging infection rates here in California, the global pandemic has been a strong reminder that we should make the most of every day -- and live life!

As summer approaches this year, its time to consider things we have been wanting to do, but for some reason haven't yet. We think of this as

           our Summer boating "bucket list."
Even with lingering signs that COVID is still around, boating maintains its status as a fun, family-oriented, outdoor, no-mask activity. Having a boat is the ultimate in "vacation on demand."

Our 2021 Summer Bucket List:

            Cruise to a New Destination

Went we say "new destination," we don't necessarily mean going far away, through rough seas, burning tons of fuel. We simply mean -- think about cruising to the coastal town just beyond the last one you visited up or down the coastline, or heading out to the beautiful Channel Islands or Catalina. Different boat trips like these will boost your confidence and actually improve your skills. A new destination provides new sights, sounds, smells, and an opportunity to be adventurous. Consult a cursing guide or area charts to find a location that will be of interest to you and your boating party. Research the destination in advance -- including marinas, inlets, tides, etc.

            Work On Docking Skills

For even very experienced captains, the most nerve-racking part of a boat cruise is docking at a marina. Very few people like docking a boat. Add in other boats, crowds standing on the dock (usually yelling "helpful" advice), and its really not surprising people are apprehensive about docking. Docking successfully includes remaining calm, confidently performing "close-in maneuvers," and many things that you can practice out in open water where the pressure is reduced (and no one is looking). Prioritize practicing docking maneuvering away from shore. Envision the docking process as you maneuver. Once you are more confident, you can try your practicing at an actual dock.

If you are completely honest, you will admit that you don't really know what every button or feature does on your boat. Now is the time to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the workings of the boat's electronics. Even the most experienced captains have electronics that they never use, or don’t even know are available. You will find that most marine electronics manufacturers have on-line videos explaining the numerous features and functions. Who knows what you might discover that will add to the enjoyment and confidence of boating.

When looking for courses you might take, consider classes in boat, engine, and trailer maintenance/repair, painting, or cleaning. Consider a boat repair class and think how great it would be to be able to fix a problem rather than call for a tow back to the marina -- not to even mention the money you will save by taking on more DIY tasks. Despite the complexity of modern boat engines with their computerized systems, there are many tasks boat owners can learn to do themselves.

Its not uncommon for spouses / significant others of boat owners to say that they don't enjoy boating as much as the primary boat owners do. Perhaps its a husband who automatically takes the helm, and the wife just goes along with whatever he wants. She is probably quietly terrified that if something were to go wrong, she would have no idea what to do to either get assistance, or how to get the boat back safely to its home port. What kind of bucket list would this be without including taking the boating trip of a lifetime -- THIS SUMMER? Whether it’s cruising through the Channel Islands or Catalina, California to Mexico, or even the Pacific Northwest up to Alaska just do it! If you are unsure about your ability, consider traveling on your own boat with other boaters along in theirs. Organizations like the Salty Dawg Sailing Association organize rallies to destinations which allow boaters to cruise on their own boats, but with a group. Wherever you want to go, you can do a little research on line and find out about a group of other boaters that want to cruise to your desired destination. You only live once!

The Most Expensive Repairs for Your Boat

Keep This Future Expenses In Mind and Budget Appropriately

The old joke goes that "BOAT" means, "bust out another thousand.” This might be an overstatement, but maybe not. Here we check out all the parts of a boat where repairs that usually cost several thousand dollars:

The expense of replacing boat parts will differ widely depending on the type and size of the boat, materials that are used, and the desired impact of technology or luxury of the vessel. However, some common factors that can contribute to the cost of a boat include:

           1.	Engines: Obviously the engine is a crucial component of a boat -- both power cruisers and sailboats. The engine propels a vessel through the water. The kind, size and power of an engine can majorly impact on the cost of maintaining a boat. Larger and more powerful engines are typically more expensive to maintain or replace. Also, the newer the technologically of many advanced engines will also be more expensive to buy and maintain. You will notice that the condition of a boat's engine is crucial to the overall upkeep of a boat. And engines are usually one of the most expensive part of a boat. If you do not maintain a boat's engine, you can end up with an engine failure and require the full replacement of an engine.

           2.	Hulls: The hull is the most significant part of the structure of a boat that supports the entire weight of the boat. Hulls are usually made of either fiberglass, steel, or wood (although this is less and less common). Hull cost will depend on the material it is made of, as well as the size and shape of the hull. In order to avoid the costly hull repairs, study the local navigational charts to avoid objects that can cause catastrophic damage the hull. This can lead to a very expensive repairs or even loss of life. Also be careful docking so as to not hit the dock.

           3.	Sails: On sailboats, sails allow the vessel to harness the power of the wind to propel itself forward. Sails come in a variety of materials, including nylon, canvas, and high-tech synthetic fibers, including carbon. As such, the cost can vary widely depending on the composition, quality and size of the sails. Lightweight and aerodynamic racing sails, will be more expensive than sails used for casually cruising or leisurely sailing.

           4.	Electronics: Boats are outfitted with all sorts of electronic systems, including GPS, radar, and navigation equipment, which can be expensive to purchase, install, and maintain. Those don't even include the electrical and refrigeration systems that almost every boat has. The onboard systems may include sophisticated software and hardware, including chartplotters, fishfinders, and autopilot systems. All of which will significantly increase the cost of a boat and cost a lot to repair. Also, electronics often doesn’t last very long before it is obsolete and needs to be replaced, further costing money.

           5.	Interior materials and design: Within the interior of a boat, there are furnishings, appliances, and other amenities, can also be a significant cost to repair. There really is no upper limit of expense with the more luxurious interiors and a higher quality level of finish. For instance, a yacht with a spacious and elegantly appointed main salon, complete with a fully equipped galley, comfortable seating, and state-of-the-art entertainment systems, will obviously be more expensive than a basic boat with more of a utilitarian interior.

Additional expenses for a boat may include other items such as rigging, mast, and the boat's anchor. The cost of buying or replacing these components depends on the size, materials used and the complexity of the boat. A large yacht with a specialized carbon fiber mast and high-tech rigging will be more expensive than a small wooden masted sailboat with simple rigging. When buying a boat, make a mental note of the little repairs that could cause major future expenses, and be sure to budget appropriately in the future.

Here in Southern California and with our climate, temperatures in the 90s in November and 80s in December and barely any rain, can deceive and delude us into thinking that the harsh winter storms of SoCal will never come.

The current long-range forecast indicates that "La Niña" conditions with lower than normal rain. However, we should remember that long-range weather forecasts were wrong for the last two years. Two years ago forecasters predicted a strong "El Niño" season, meaning a lot of extra rain. After the first or second strong storm, the rain completely dried out. Again, last year the forecasters promised that we would have a dry La Niña year. In reality we were deluged with “atmospheric rivers,” causing severe rain storms, dangerous flooding and mudslides in SoCal.

That being said, how should we boaters prepare for the largely unpredictable winter? We do advise that you winterize your boats. But, unlike the extreme, full-scale winterization required in colder climes to help you weather hard freezes, we mostly need to protect our boats against strong winds and heavy rains.

The single most important thing to do is to look for any water leaks and seal them. You can always check for the water tightness of your hatches and window frames by taking a hose, running water on and around them and look for any water penetration. You could even try to test with a high pressure hose at different angles. This can simulate the near-horizontal wind-driven rain that we can experience here in southern California. Water has a way of finding entry points in unlikely places.

Inspect the bilge for any leakage. Can you see any standing water? Do you know where it came from? If not, you will have to track down the origin.

Clean out and unclog all your deck scuppers and drains to allow water to escape. The standing water caused by clogged drains can create even greater problems and possible damage. You can utilize a snake, spiral wire, straightened wire coat hanger or high pressure hose to clear drains.

Check your lines -- are they frayed? Worn and frayed lines could break in strong gusting winds. If that happens, it will result in boats breaking loose and likely drift onto land, float away to sea, or crash into and damage other vessels in addition to your own.

Make sure not to leave any loose tools, toys or objects on your deck or on the dock. Winds can pick up objects and turn them into projectiles. Always bring in or tie down loose objects.

Pay extra attention to your canvas sails coverings and biminis. High winter winds can rip holes in canvas or tear apart weak seams. Make sure your sails are furled correctly, particularly the headsail and jib. If you don't furl them straight they will catch the wind and can ruin the sail.

For any boat we recommend topping up the water in lead acid battery cells in addition to brushing, cleaning and applying dielectric grease to the electrical connections.

You could look at winter here in SoCal as an opportunity to order new canvas or arrange for a haul-out and bottom painting.

Boat Repair Shops are Swamped With The Boats Purchased During COVID

More Boats Mean More Repairs -- and Shop Wait Times Are Reflecting This.

We are currently seeing that boat repair shops are experiencing high demand and booking further and further out for their services largely due to the increased number of boats purchased during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. With many people looking for new ways to enjoy their free time while maintaining social distancing, boating became a popular activity in 2020-22. As a result, there was a huge surge in boat sales (both new and used), which is currently leading to increased demand for boat repair and maintenance services. Mobile boat repair has become very popular since they can come right to your dock or trailer.

Additionally, many people choose to stay close to home during the pandemic, and using their boats more frequently, which can lead to wear and tear and the need for repairs. The elongated time that people are taking to “work” remotely is extending the time where people can use their boats. It's important to note, however, that it is a possible explanation for why boat repair shops may be busy. Never discount that there can be many other factors at play as well.

For instance -- It seems that people are keeping boats longer than before. But it's difficult to say for certain without more research driven data. However, there are a few reasons why this could be the actual situation.

Firstly, with the higher demand for boats during the pandemic mentioned above, many people likely had to wait longer to purchase a new boat or upgrade their existing one. As a result, they may be more likely to keep their current boat for a longer period of time.

Secondly, boat ownership can be expensive, and some people may be choosing to keep their boat for longer in order to save money. Instead of upgrading to a newer model, they may be opting to maintain their current boat and make necessary repairs to keep it in good condition.

Finally, there may be sentimental or emotional attachments to boats that could also contribute to people keeping them for longer. For example, a family may have many fond memories of boating trips together and may be reluctant to part with their boat even if it is no longer the newest or most advanced model available.

Overall, while there is some indication that people are keeping boats longer.
