Proper cleaning and often conditioning extends the working life of boat and yacht surfaces and materials which are exposed to sunlight, water, salt and use by people. Ventura Boat Services is a full service provider of boat and yacht services primarily at both the Ventura Harbor, Ventura, California, and the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, California. For smaller, tailored boats, we service all of Ventura County and surrounding areas. We provide virtually anything and everything that a boat owner might need, but doesn't want to do or can't do themselves. BOAT CLEANING / DETAILING SERVICES

Boat maintenance, generally, is quite similar to automobile maintenance. There are a few very basic items that require constant maintenance which the owner normally takes care of, and a few items that require maintenance at regular intervals that most people leave to the professionals, like Ventura Boat Services. Any basic boat maintenance checklist would include the following items:

Engine(s)
The boat’s hull (bottom) and topsides
Electrical systems
Plumbing and HVAC systems (in larger boats)
Moving parts (like hinges, tracks, and zippers)
Canvass and upholstery

There are many other considerations for maintenance of wooden boats, which require specialized skills (call us for information).

BOAT PAINTING SERVICES

Please don't fall into the mistaken thinking that many boat owners do. Fiberglass is not maintenance-free. If your boat is looking past its prime, it might be time to consider a paint job. Remember your boat is usually the second most valuable asset behind your house. Despite that fact, many boat owners protect their substantial investment with paint either rarely, or never.

If chalk comes off on your hand when you touch your boat's hull, there is good reason to suspect that your boat's gelcoat has oxidized and may be in need of remediation and repair. In some cases, the surface shine of the fiberglass can be restored by applying compounding material and by polishing. When the condition of your fiberglass cannot be restored by compounding and polishing, you will have to paint. When done by professionals, a paint job should last for many years to come.

As with any land-based painting project, the majority of the work occurs in the preparation of the surface. Since fiberglass is a nonporous material, it is not conducive to the adhesion of spray painting. At Ventura Boat Services, before spray painting any type of fiberglass, we will prepare and condition the fiberglass to accept the paint sprayed on it. Without this type of preparation, the paint will just peel off after application.
